Queenstown and Central Otago Wine Tours

The Central Otago wine region spreads from the outskirts of Queenstown’s Wakatipu Basin through picturesque valleys and dramatic gorges to the rolling vine-clad foothills of Bannockburn and beyond. The region itself is broken into six wine sub-regions: Bannockburn, Cromwell Basin, Bendigo, Gibbston, Wanaka, Alexandra Basin. Each region has its own distinctive soils, elevations and characteristics, all producing excellent aromatic and burgundy wine types.

Utilising our twenty years of experience leading wine tours in Central Otago, we have carefully crafted our daily wine tours to ensure you experience the best of the southernmost wine producing region in the world.  Our premium small, personalised group wine-tasting tours take you from Queenstown to Gibbston and on to the very heart of the Central Otago wine country to explore the vineyards in Bannockburn and Cromwell.

Whether you would prefer to be immersed into Central Otago’s wine culture for a full day, half day, or savour the taste for an afternoon, you have the opportunity to gain wealth of knowledge from our passionate wine guides – local knowledge, history and everything wine!

An indulgent and diverse full day tour showcasing the very best sights and tastes from the Central Otago region. Let your experienced wine guide lead you on a tasting journey through the contrasting Central Otago wine sub-regions of Gibbston and Bannockburn/Cromwell. Visit New Zealand’s largest wine cave and retrace history by discovering the historic settlements of Old Cromwell and beautiful Arrowtown.

Visit 4 premium vineyards extensively sampling the region’s renowned cool-climate wines. Indulge in a delicious gourmet lunch cooked in retired French Oak Pinot Noir wine barrels with matched wines, as well as savouring locally produced cheeses and artisan chocolates.

Our full day Gourmet Scenic Wine Tour is for those who want to indulge and experience the very best offerings from Central Otago.

Immerse yourself an afternoon amongst the boutique vineyards and splendid alpine scenery of Central Otago. Visit 4 premium vineyards over 2 contrasting wine regions, learn about the wine and pioneering history and visit the Historic Precinct of Old Cromwell.

Included is a delightful shared platter lunch and a glass of wine with lunch, as well as all tastings.

Some wineries are producing amazing craft beers as well! If there is someone coming along who would prefer beer, please let us know and we can try to accommodate.

Afternoon – Classic Wine Tour

If you are short on time but still want to experience the best of the region, this tour is for you. Join our afternoon tour and sample wines from both Gibbston and Bannockburn, while staying in the Gibbston region. Enjoy a full running commentary from our local, expert wine guides where the more questions the merrier!

Sample wines from both the Gibbston and Bannockburn wine sub-regions on this fun and interactive afternoon tour. Enjoy tastings at 3 varying cellar doors, take a guided tour through New Zealand’s largest wine cave and relax with some local cheeses and a glass of premium wine of your choice.

Thrillzone – Kidzclub – 1pm-5pm

Want to find something fun for your children? Everyone wins when you treat your kids to KidzClub. While you take a relaxing and informative wine tour through stunning alpine scenery, your child/children will be enjoying fun and entertainment with a dedicated staff member to a range of activities offered at Thrillzone! Add this option when you book your Classic Wine Tour.

Morning Tour – Sights of Queenstown & Arrowtown

9am to 12pm (3 hours)

Be “wowed” on this guided morning sightseeing tour. Begin the morning high above Queenstown taking in panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and beautiful Lake Wakatipu. Enjoy the scenery of Coronet Peak on your way to historic Arrowtown. Take a guided walk through the regions past, exploring the remnants of the towns 1860’s gold rush history, from the picturesque main street to the preserved Chinese settlement. Continue to the entrance of the Gibbston Valley, take in the dramatic Kawarau Gorge and watch the daredevils bungy jump from the famous Kawarau Suspension Bridge. Finish the morning with a relaxing cup of tea or coffee in a garden-like cafe near the beautiful Lake Hayes. For those more wine inclined, indulge in a tasting before returning to Queenstown.

Full Day – Sights & Wine Tour

A full-day immersion into the local sights, wine and cuisine of the region. Begin with a morning of guided sightseeing around both hidden and iconic location attractions. At lunchtime, enjoy a gastronomic “Trust the Chef” lunch experience at the acclaimed Amisfield winery. In the afternoon, be collected for an afternoon exploring the Central Otago’s award-winning Pinot Noir producing wine region of Gibbston. Visit 3 vineyards including New Zealand’s largest wine cave and enjoy a beautiful cheese platter with a glass of premium estate wine.

Lunch at Amisfield is subject to restaurant availability.
