In the last week we have tasted three of the ‘Best of the Best’ Pinot Noirs from Central Otago on our small group Wine Tours. These are wines not to miss out on if you don’t mind spending a bit more and looking for that special Xmas present …
Amisfield RKV 2012 ($120) – Wow, this is a blockbuster, not a term I normally use with Pinot Noirs but this is impressive stuff, and will go the distance for those who like to cellar there wines.
Mt Difficulty Single Vineyard Long Gully 2013 ($95) – One of several of the single vineyards Pinot Noir’s from Mt Difficulty, it has an intense nose of Xmas Cake and Licorice with a rich voluptuous palate. With great tannin structure this is another keeper.
Carrick Excelsior 2013 ($95) – The best yet in my opinion from the limited release Excelsior series, mouth-wateringly rich with dark plum, cherry flavours, aniseed and licorice flavours, rich and complex. Drinking well now but a lifetime ahead.
